Korg DW8000 Sample Collection
The DW8000 is loved by many for a variety of reasons while many simple do not "get it". This is probably why one reviewer said it was as good as his Jupiter 6. While we would swap our Korg DW8000 for a Roland Jupiter 6 in less than a heartbeat, we have to admit that some of the sounds we have created on this interesting synth are extremely useful, especially when used in a sampler which features its own filters. Korg DW8000 Samples
There is something about the DW8000, you either love it or not, it doesn't get any hate but it is certainly overlooked in favour of the many other synthesizers available. Unfortunately this synth did not do well back in 1985 as, in 1987, Roland released their incredible D50 and a whole generation of musicians seemed to use its presets (Enya and Jean Michelle Jarre to name two). While the D50 was a great success Korg returned with the M1 which blew it out of the water in terms of number of units sold. This left the DW8000 in the shadows but there is something about this synth that makes it cry out to be played. It has a solid bottom end and the filter can scream like the rest of them (up to self oscillation).
Our samples were taken direct from a vintage Korg DW8000 using high quality (24-bit) pro recording gear from Mark of the Unicorn (MOTU). We decided to increase the quiality on this set so for this collection we sampled four notes per octave and seven octaves. This provides the opportunity to achieve the full experience of the synthesiser and it makes this collection the most comprehensive sample set of the KORG DW8000 available today. We truly believe that you will not be able to find better. This may sound brave or even foolish but we have yet to recieve any negative comments that were not resolved as we promise to do our very best so that you get the very best from our samples.
While this sample collection is an excellent way to discover the heart of the DW8000 each and every patch we sampled can become the source of a multitude of new and exciting patches using the more advanced features available on modern samplers. We strongly recommend that you take a serious look at purchasing the most recent version of Native Instruments Kontakt sampler. It has an amazing feature set and, coupled with our sample collections, it is possible to create polyphonic timbres previously really only available from complicated modular synths. Even of tje DW8000 filter is a strong part of the patch it is possible to create additional and complimentary filter movements using Kontakt, you are really only limited by your own imagination.
In total we sampled 683 patches across seven octaves taking nearly 24,000 individual samples at 24-bit resolution for a total of just over 40 Gigabytes of data.
